With lasers cutting through the night and a packed crowd on its feet, Tape B closed out an outdoor night in Chandler alongside G Jones, Wink, Beastboi and Dr. Ushūu.

Electronic artist Tape B brought his high-energy sound to Rawhide Event Center in Chandler, Arizona on August 29. Support came from Dr. Ushūu, Beastboi, Wink, and G Jones, who each brought their own style to the stage before Tape B closed out the night.

As someone who primarily photographs concerts in rock and metal settings, this show offered a completely different experience. The event had a festival-like atmosphere, with vendors throughout the venue selling rave clothing and accessories. Geek Bar, Jimmy John’s, BeatBox, and Chick-fil-A were also on site, giving attendees plenty of options to grab food and drinks throughout the night.

The evening started off fairly calm with Dr. Ushūu as the crowd began to settle into the event. Beastboi helped bring more energy as the night went on, while Wink stood out as one of the most energetic performers of the night. He spent much of his set jumping around the stage and moving constantly, making for an especially fun performance to photograph.

G Jones brought a more mellow energy to his set, giving the crowd a change of pace before Tape B took the stage. The outdoor setting also brought some unexpected weather, with a dust storm moving through the venue during the night.

By the time Tape B took the stage, the energy had completely changed. The crowd was fully engaged, with fans dancing and going wild throughout his set. Tape B brought the strongest overall energy of the night, and his songs kept the crowd moving from start to finish.

The production also made Tape B’s set stand out. Lasers filled the stage and surrounding area, creating a completely different visual experience from the shows usually photographed in indoor rock and metal venues. The outdoor setting, night sky, and dust in the air added even more to the atmosphere.

From a photography perspective, the show offered plenty of opportunities to capture more than just the performers. Walking around the venue allowed for photos of fans enjoying the show, as well as the vendors and overall atmosphere. Each artist also offered something different to photograph, from Wink’s constant movement on stage to the lasers and large crowd reactions during Tape B’s set.

By the end of the night, the energy at Rawhide had completely changed from where it started. Coming from a background of photographing mostly rock and metal shows, the experience was a fun change of pace and offered a chance to capture a different side of live music. Tape B ultimately brought the strongest energy of the night and gave the crowd an energetic finale to an already unique outdoor show.
