Love Spells brought the “Love Is the Law” tour to Phoenix for a sold-out stop at Valley Bar, pairing his dream-pop sound with an intimate and unpredictable performance.

Love Spells is an up-and-coming dream-pop and shoegaze indie artist who stopped by Phoenix’s Valley Bar on September 12th for a sold-out show on his “Love Is the Law” tour.

At just 21 years old, Sir Taegen has already worked with major artists such as Kevin Abstract and Dominic Fike on the album Blush. At first glance, Love Spells looks like a reincarnation of Prince, but he also has a voice that feels reminiscent of him.

Hearing him switch from speaking normally to singing in his falsetto was surprising to hear come out of him, but incredibly impressive. Not only can he sing, but he also knows how to get groovy. In between songs, he would show the crowd his footwork and dance around the stage.

With Love Spells, you definitely can’t judge a book by its cover. He looks like the kind of person who is too cool to talk to, but then you remember his age and realize he still acts like a typical 21-year-old. At one point, he had a whole conversation with the audience about summer sausage and even had his manager go back to the green room to get his so he could eat it on stage while performing.

The intimacy of Valley Bar made the experience even better because it allowed Love Spells to interact with his fans and see everyone in the room clearly. Before and after his show, he could be found hanging around the bar and nearby local establishments, taking pictures with fans.

So, even though there wasn’t a VIP experience, there were still plenty of opportunities for fans to talk to him and meet him outside of the show. Overall Love Spells put on an angelic performance mixed with his quick wit personality that made for an evening worth the ticket.
