The American Heart Tour finds Boone working every corner of the room with big production, plenty of movement, and fans singing back every word.
Even before entering the arena, the ambience surrounding Benson Boone’s pre-show was almost magical. Fans of all ages and backgrounds were in line; Their faces filled with joy, as daughters (& sons) screamed with glee as they walked inside the arena. From there on, I knew this show was bound to be something special.
The show opened up with a very heartspoken Luna Li; with dreamy vocals and her crewmates perfectly hitting ethereal notes that waved throughout the arena. While I didn't get to see the whole performance (courtesy of photographing the first 3 songs rule,) I can confidently say that Luna Li and her crew of musicians perfectly set up the rest of the night.
As the clock struck 9:00pm, something significant happened. The arena started to play Bohemian Rhapsody and the crowd followed the song immediately. What was special however was that they were singing through the song twice, with each second coming closer and closer towards the beginning of the show.
Suddenly, the lights went down. The audience roared. At exactly 9:10pm, Benson’s title card showed up on the screen and he started to sing the beloved song, “Sorry I’m here for someone else.” Fans immediately wasted no time; they sang along in unison with Benson and took over his singing.
After a solid two minutes of hiding beneath the floor, Benson finally appeared; with a riser slowly bringing him up towards the stage floor. Fans erupted in cheer, as they saw their hero finally onstage. With a setlist of 20 exact songs, Benson wasted no time and started to move.
Moving back and forth between BOH and FOH, Benson was greeting his fans from left to right; hitting every angle possible. With high-fives and singalongs, every fan was enchanted by his every encounter. Benson continued the night by singing his hit songs, “Mr. Electric Blue” and “There She Goes”, maintaining the same amount of energy and implementing, of course, his iconic backflips.
Sadly, I only stayed until the end of “There She Goes,” (again that first 3 songs rule) but those 9-10 minutes of photographing the show was probably one of the most amazing moments of my life. From pyrokinetics and explosions setting off to one of the cameramen slightly bumping me out of the way to photographing some of the audience members' awesome reactions, this was truly an amazing moment of my life.
