From beginning to end, Armor For Sleep kept the near-capacity Crescent Ballroom crowd energized.
Hailing from New Jersey, Armor for Sleep has had skin in the game for quite some time, forming in 2001 and releasing concept-based projects since 2003. Lead singer and guitarist Ben Jorgensen emphasized early on that this tour was unlike tours in the past few years, stating that rather than focusing on a specific album anniversary, they were going to play through all the band’s projects.
Kicking off with “Dream to Make Believe” off of their 2003 album of the same name, Armor for Sleep stayed true to their word and performed a setlist filled with all five of their albums.
Fans in the venue were very clearly dedicated, screaming lyrics, head banging, and, in certain sections, moshing. The energy was unwavering; it felt as though the crowd got more excited and engaged as the show went on.
Specifically, the momentum shifted for the last six-song run containing hits like “Awkward Last Words," “Basement Ghost Singing," and “The Truth About Heaven." Arms waving in the air, phones recording their favorite lines, and a lot of smiles on faces.
The show culminated with fan-favorite song “Car Underwater," which Ben stated was the happiest part of the night despite the lyrical contents of the song being incredibly sad. He said it was amazing to see how fans have resonated with the song over the years, and after seeing it for myself, it’s easy to agree.
Tuesday’s show served as the perfect night for fans of the older music, fans of the newer era, and those who are just hearing Armor For Sleep for the first time.
